The calico she-cat looked around slowly, padding along the border slowly as she scanned the ground for any sign of herbs. It seemed as though she was always running low, and once she had restocked on one she had to head out to get another. She still needed Poppy, which was very important, and now she needed Burdock as well. Maybe she just wasn't getting enough at a time and needed to collect more? That might be a good idea... And where was her apprentice? She hadn't sent him out before, but she had only been given an apprentice a short while ago. Maybe she needed to go find him after collecting herbs and introduce herself. She hadn't really talked to him before, and it would be useful to have him around.
"...I really wish I had asked someone to come along..." Nightsong muttered to herself, groaning slightly. She didn't like asking other cats for help, and always felt bad for disturbing them. They could always say 'no', but she knew that no one liked to do so, and that if they couldn't then the question would put them in an awkward position. There had to be an easier way of doing things... The she-cat didn't even notice that she was getting very close to the border. In fact, one misplaced paw and she would soon be swimming with th-

The Medicine Cat gasped as she fell into the water, water flooding in from every direction to cover her. Gravity pulled her down slowly, and the direction of the river began to haul her along toward the Falls. She held her breath, telling herself that there was no air to gasp for down there. She kicked her legs, panicking slightly as she tried to make her way back to the surface. She could swim... She had just been caught off guard by falling in. The she-cat finally felt the cold air around her as she broke through the surface and continued to kick and paddle toward shore. She reached up for solid ground, and pulled herself up onto the land.
"...Hah... That was n-not... f-fun..." she panted, looking back at the rushing water. She took in a deep breath through her nose, and at that very second Nightsong could tell that she wasn't on her own territory. This was WindClan's land... Oh, what if someone found her there? She wasn't too eager about getting through the river, but it was silly to be scared of something she had swam through all her life, even if it was only for a few seconds. The calico paused, looking around slowly, her lovely green eyes wide with fear of getting caught on the wrong side of the border. She felt frozen where she stood, as if she couldn't swim back even if she wanted to; and she had narrowly missed the falls, so she would have to walk a bit upstream to avoid being sucked down and risk getting hurt.
"...I r-really hope I c-can m-make it..." she muttered softly, padding ahead slowly so that she could swim back across. Maybe if someone caught her, she could just explain what had happened. WindClan cats were nice, right? ...Right...?

The deputy's black-furred paws barely had time to sink into the soft earth before he took another step, moving him along at a steady trot. His dark yellow eyes kept shifting from one focus to another. Hawktoes was searching for border markers. Though this part of WindClan's border did not seem to get much traffic, it just would not do to neglect it. RiverClan might decide to take advantage if they couldn't scent urine markers or see any fresh claw marks. His tail tip flicked irritably at the thought of those fish-munchers stepping onto his Clan's land. Not that he had anything against them, of course - Hawk tended think of other clans in an unkind fashion when the thought of them violating his territory crossed his mind.
He paused next to an older-looking tree. Its silvery bark already bore the deep furrows of feline claws; this particular birch had been one of their markers for quite so time. The tri-color tom reared up and placed his paws on the trunk. His claws came out, digging deep into the wood. Each forepaw took a turn getting dragged down the trunk. The action would leave his scent, WindClan's own stone and heather scent, on the bark as well as the wood beneath. Hawk preferred using clawmarks as a border marker, as they were much more graphic than a mere spray one.
The sound of a loud splash made him jerk in surprise. He immediately dropped his front end back to the ground, turning to the river. The tom caught nothing more than a glimpse of tortoiseshell fur before the cat sank beneath the surface. His thoughts immediately went to Nightsong, the RiverClan medicine cat. She was the only one of that color in the neighboring Clan as far as he knew. Heart pounding, he sprinted down to the riverbank, eyes scanning the surface for any signs of her. There wasn't any reason for him to be so worried about Nightsong - it wasn't like she was his mate or something.
Hawk sighed in relief when she surfaced and began paddling toward dry land. He covered the remaining distance between them in mere seconds, his tail quivering anxiously. "Nightsong!" he meowed. "Are you alright?"

Nightsong hoped that the WindClan cats would be friendly, but she didn't expect to see the deputy running after her. She jumped as her name was called, calico fur standing on end as she spun around quickly. She wasn't used to having so many other cats know her name, especially when they were from other Clans. That must have been one of the things that came with being a Medicine Cat... One of the things she would never get used to. There were many cats who she didn't know, nor did she have any way of knowing them before, who called her by her name on multiple occassions. She often felt rather awkward having to ask for their names in return, and a little bad for not knowing them.
"Are you alright?"
The RiverClan cat was relieved to see that it Hawktoes, the WindClan deputy. She had seen him at some of the Gatherings, but only glances and such; oh, and she remembered some of the she-cats back at camp swooning over him and talking about how great he was. He was rather nice-looking... but he was out of her league, and besides, she had no time to swoon over anyone when she had sick or injured cats attend to.
"I... I'm f-fine..." the calico stuttered in reply, her voice almost faint. She calmed down, letting her muscles relax as she realized that she wasn't in any danger. Nightsong sat down quietly, realizing just how tired she was from the panicked swim. She wrapped her fluffy tail around her paws, raising her shoulders and flattening her ears against the top of her head timidly.
"I... I w-was just... surprised, that's all..." she explained, shrugging.

Hawktoes jumped in surprise at her reaction, his own deep brown fur fluffing up a bit. Then again, he couldn't really blame her. He would probably be awful jumpy after almost going over the falls, too. The deputy took a deep breath to calm himself. He wished that he could groom a little bit, as the activity was particularly soothing, but he couldn't exactly start licking his fur in such a situation. It just wasn't deputy like.
"I... I'm f-fine..." she stuttered. Her posture became less tense and she sat down, curling her tail over her paws. "I... I w-was just... surprised, that's all..."
Hawk, concerned, padded closer. He sat down beside her. "Are you sure?" he asked. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
(ooc: I know it's short, but I needed to give you a reply.)

Nightsong blinked a few times as Hawktoes jumped, his own fur fluffing up slightly. She hadn't expected to surprise him, especially when she herself had been surprised. In fact, she rarely every expected to surprise anyone. She was quiet, but she wasn't good enough to sneak up on other cats, especially the warriors who had great hearing. Even the elders spotted her coming from the other side of camp, since her multi-colored pelt stuck out against the land. Surprising a deputy was especially new to her, and she wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a silly thing or a bad thing.
"I'm s-sorry...!" she stuttered quickly, looking down shyly. The calico's muscles tensed up slightly as the tom padded over to her. What is he was playing nice just so that he could get close and attack her? That seemed very out of character for a WindClan cat, but there were always exceptions. She let out a tiny sigh of relief when the deputy sat down next to her. She had heard from the other cats that he was quite polite, and he made a good deputy for the other Clan. The she-cat relaxed more as she focused on the good possibilities instead of the bad, convincing herself that WindClan was nice and that she would be fine.
"Are you sure?"
"...Y-yes... Of course..." Nightsong answered. This wasn't the first time she had gotten into trouble after swimming. Last time she had ended up over in ThunderClan, and if it hadn't been for one of the warriors there, Cherryfrost, then would have been in some serious trouble. She had been having rotten luck that whole moon. Maybe it was a sign; or, maybe she was just having one of those days... extended version.
"Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Hm...?" the Medicine Cat blinked a few times, slightly surprised. At least that extended bad day was combated by some kind cats. She shook her head quickly when she realized that he had just offered her help, and that she had yet to answer. The calico meowed back quickly, "Oh! ...No, I... I just need to rest a bit before swimming back... I should probably head up the river, though... Thank you..."
